Two Colorado Springs Starbucks Stores Appear Targeted for Closure; Transfers Offered Where Possible

Starbucks stores at 4465 Centennial Blvd. and 7331 Central Rail Point in Colorado Springs appeared targeted for closure in a September 25 Gazette report based on changed hours in the company’s app. The report did not establish a final operating day for either store.

For workers at a store that closes under Starbucks’ plan, the immediate question is whether another coffeehouse can take them. In its September 24 announcement, Starbucks said it would offer affected employees transfers wherever possible and provide severance support if it could not place them. It did not give a Colorado worker count or say how many transfers had been arranged.

A broader closure plan

Starbucks said it planned to close approximately 250 North American coffeehouses later in the week of September 24—about 1% of its more than 18,000 stores in the region. The company said the selected stores did not deliver the customer and employee experience it wanted or lacked a path to acceptable financial performance. It did not give a store-specific explanation for the two Colorado Springs addresses identified by the Gazette.

A September 24 SEC filing says Starbucks’ board approved the plan on September 22 and that the company expects most closures by the end of its 2026 fiscal year. Starbucks projects approximately $300 million in companywide restructuring charges, including about $200 million in cash charges primarily for lease exits and employee separation benefits. That estimate is not a Colorado severance amount or a count of jobs lost.

Workers’ representatives are seeking more information. The Gazette reported that Starbucks Workers United said 20 unionized stores nationwide were slated to close and that it expected to bargain over the effects. That national figure does not establish the union status or staffing of either Colorado Springs store. For affected employees, Starbucks’ stated commitment remains a transfer where placement is possible, or severance support where it is not.
