Training and apprenticeships

Bank of America Plans 1,000 More U.S. Apprentices; Denver IT Course Deadline Is Oct. 12

The bank’s planned roles are paid and generally last about a year. A separate Denver IT course starts Oct. 23 and requires 16 weeks of full-time training.

Bank of America said Sept. 24, 2026, that it plans to hire 1,000 additional paid apprentices across the United States over the next two years. The planned hires span consumer banking, technology, operations and other areas. The bank did not specify how many, if any, would be in Colorado.

Denver-area job seekers have a separate near-term decision: ActivateWork’s tuition-free IT support course closes applications Oct. 12 and begins Oct. 23. It requires 16 weeks of full-time training. Applying for the course is not applying for one of the bank’s planned jobs.

Paid apprenticeships and a Colorado history

Bank of America says its apprenticeships generally last about 12 months and offer potential advancement to a non-apprentice role. It also committed $150 million over five years to workforce-development organizations, separate from its hiring plan.

The bank has worked with ActivateWork before. The Denver-based nonprofit dates the launch of its registered IT, cybersecurity and DevOps apprenticeships with employers including Bank of America to 2022. Its January 2025 report described a Colorado participant working as a bank cybersecurity apprentice at that time. That history does not establish a Colorado opening in the newly announced expansion.

What the Denver course asks of applicants

ActivateWork lists a Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. schedule, mostly online with one in-person career-development day each week at 1777 S. Harrison St. in Denver. The course prepares learners for CompTIA A+ testing at no cost; enrollment does not guarantee certification. ActivateWork publishes no wage or stipend for the course. Training partner Per Scholas also lists the Oct. 12 deadline and Oct. 23 start.

Under ActivateWork’s admissions terms, applicants must be at least 18, have or be working toward a high-school diploma or GED, have U.S. work authorization, live within commuting distance and be available full time. Admission involves screening and an interview. Places are limited, but no cohort-seat count is published. Eligible enrolled learners may apply for a zero-interest living-expense loan.

ActivateWork says it does not employ apprentices or accept direct applications for apprenticeship jobs. Eligible graduates may be invited to apply if a partner employer has a matching opening; that employer decides whom to hire. The Oct. 12 deadline is a decision about training, while a paid apprenticeship requires a separate job opening and hiring decision.
